Teaching Experience
University of Illinois at Chicago
Faced with a curriculum change, I worked with faculty to integrate information literacy components into each of the four core courses in the School of Nursing undergraduate curriculum. I taught a library session within each core course and provided additional individual instruction on APA formatting and citing. I also worked with my colleagues at other College of Nursing sites to integrate the library into their courses as well as collaborate on library instruction for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students. At the School of Medicine, I worked with faculty for the Foundations of Clinical Medicine - 1 course. Together, we created an assignment in which students wrote up and presented a medical case, utilizing library resources to provide background and basic science information. Throughout the year, I taught instruction sessions to small groups of students, emphasizing the use of professional medical resources. I performed an assessment of the resources students used and provided training to faculty of the effective use of scholarly literature.
University of Illinois
I taught and mentored graduate assistants for a variety of drop in workshops related to citation management (RefWorks and EndNote), organizing research, and the use of library resources. I routinely contributed to the University Library’s Graduate Assistant training by providing sessions that introduce searching for library materials, search interfaces, and citation searching. I guest lecture in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) classes at the University of Illinois on topics pertaining to search and discovery in libraries, user experience methods, and reference collection development strategies.
Supervision of Graduate Student Research

Lugya, Frederick, PhD, GSLIS, 2016, “Evaluation Criteria for Search Discovery Systems: An Analysis of User Search Strategies and Behavior”. Committee Member.
Other Contributions to Instructional Programs
I have taught two sections of LIS 592 (Independent Study) in GSLIS: Spring, 2011: I oversaw an independent study by a GSLIS student who did a hands-on usability study on a subset of library webpages devoted to instructional materials and issued recommendation on the website's structure and navigation. Summer, 2011: I coordinated an independent study for two GSLIS students during which they read and discussed seminal texts on general usability theory, practical methods, and library research papers on usability.
University of Central Missouri
At UCM, I supervised several practicum experiences for students in the Educational Technology and Information Systems master’s degree programs. I taught two sections of the one credit freshman seminar, where I developed a syllabus based on course objectives to orient freshman to university live. I also regularly taught bibliographic instruction sessions for students in the computer information systems and mathematics departments. Additionally, I served as a research mentor for students in the McNair scholars program.
